Point　once / have no problem ing

A: I saw them smiling.
B: Really?
A: But I didn’t know why they were smiling.

They were smiling
I didn’t know / why were they smiling

1. The couple was walking.
I didn’t know / on what floor did they live.

2. My friend was drinking.
I didn’t know / what was he drinking.

3. My wife was unpacking the cardboard.
I didn’t know / where did she put that stuff.

4. My friend was walking on the street.
I didn’t know / where was he going.

5. They were chatting until late.
I didn’t know / what time did they go to bed

知覚動詞see 人 ing 　　 「人が～しているのを見る」 I saw them smiling. 人 ing

間接疑問詞 　　 疑問文が文中に入ります。

Why were they smiling? 彼らはなぜ笑ってたんですか？ → I didn’t know why they were smiling. 彼らがなぜ笑ってたかわからない ＊文中に入ったら後ろは主語、動詞の順番です。

1. I saw the couple was walking. I didn’t know on what floor they lived.
2. I saw my friend was drinking. I didn’t know what he was drinking.
3. I saw my wife was unpacking the cardboard. I didn’t know where she put that stuff.
4. I saw my friend was walking on the street. I didn’t know where he was going.
5. I saw they were chatting until late. I didn’t know what time they went to bed
